PEF Fight-Back

03/19/2011

It is Time to TAKE ACTION !!!!

Formal negotiations for a successor agreement to the 2007-11 NYS-PEF agreement was scheduled to begin Wednesday March 16th.

****They are predicting that the budget will be passed by April 1, 2011****

The Most important effort PEF members can make is to lobby their Republican Senators to accept continuing the surcharge on millionaires.  Without this revenue the SUNY restoration is at great risk and it will make it extremely difficult for PEF to mitigate the employee concessions the State has demanded especially in 2012 through 2014.

Potential Change in Calculation of Sick Leave Credit for Retiree Health Insurance

President Brynien:  "As reported previously, we have learned that the Department of Civil Service is contemplating a change in how the value of accrued sick leave is calculated for the purposes of retiree health insurance.

Although the situation remains fluid, I directed staff to prepare the attached memo to share with you the information we have learned to this point, and what action PEF has already taken.  We will update this information as more details are made available."

Budget Fight-Back Preparation and Activity

In a memo from President Brynien on 1/21/2011 " Governor Cuomo has until February 1st to present his Executive Budget to the legislature.  As part of PEF's efforts to prepare our budget fight-back, our Legislative Office and Research Department has put together talking points for our leaders and members to use to respond to the many misrepresentations for the state workforce that are reported in the medial and have become the basis for many of the attacks against us.

Over the next two weeks we will be contacting our membership through robo-calls, e-mails, and our mobilization and steward networks to continue to help get out our message to friends and neighbors, the legislature, the media and the governor, that the state work force did not create the fiscal crisis and that the burden of the fiscal crisis needs to be shared fairly....:

Memo From President Brynien dated:  01/21/2011

Please familiarize yourselves with talking points and budget solutions and use them when you address attacks against us.

Talking Points 2011

"We will need your help in identifying the specific impact of past cuts in the work force to assist in our efforts to fight any additional cuts that may be proposed in the the Executive Budget."
